The 20-year-old son of a 49-year-old woman who perished in a crash involving a drunk driver in Milwaukee earlier this month has also died.
The wrongful death of his mother occurred on Nov. 6, when she and her son were allegedly hit by a 41-year-old man driving a Chevy pickup as they crossed a street.
The two victims were struck near 18th Street and W. Greenfield Avenue, and the mother was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to police, they saw the motorist speeding while traveling east at 18th Street and W. Greenfield Avenue shortly after the crash. They say they attempted to catch up with him. The man was traveling between 80 and 100 mph, according to witnesses.
The motorist apparently continued east on the road and ended up crashing. The driver fled on foot and jumped into the Milwaukee Harbor before police rescued him and took him into custody.
After spending about a week and a half in Froedtert Hospital in Wauwatosa, the son passed away.
According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the driver is facing multiple charges including two counts of homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle, two counts of injury by intoxicated use of a vehicle, driving with a revoked license causing death, failing to stop after striking a person, causing great bodily harm, and hit-and-run resulting in death.
Police added the driver also has three previous arrests due to drunk driving and driving with a revoked license. He could see even more charges in light of the son's death.
