Driving drunk has dire consequences. People who get behind the wheel after having a few drinks risk harming themselves and harming others. They could get into single vehicle accidents, collide with other vehicles, or hit pedestrians, bicyclists or motorcyclists.
An allegedly drunk driver hit a motorcyclist in Milwaukee last week, and the consequences were serious. A 34-year-old biker was critically injured in the motorcycle accident, and the driver who caused the crash was arrested.
According to Fox 6 Now, the accident occurred in the Riverwest neighborhood of Milwaukee. Police say the motorcyclist was headed east on North Avenue when an SUV headed in the opposite direction crossed the double yellow line and struck the motorcycle head-on.
To make matters worse, the car following behind the motorcycle rear-ended it when the accident occurred.
According to police, a helmet was found at the scene of the crash, but they don't know if the biker was actually wearing it.
Police apparently arrested the driver of the SUV after allegedly finding open containers of intoxicants inside the vehicle. Fox 6 Now reports that the female driver was arrested for driving drunk.
It's still not clear what caused the accident. A Milwaukee police sergeant notes that the crash occurred on a blind curve and it's not clear what the SUV driver's sight path was.
Whether the driver had a clear view of the road or not, it's still no excuse for crashing into the motorcycle and nearly costing a life. Please drive safely.
