A fatal car accident claimed the life of one University of Wisconsin senior last Sunday afternoon on Madison's near east side. Reports detail that the 21-year-old Spanish major was on his way to work when he was fatally injured. Madison Police Department reports detailed that officers were called to respond to a two-car accident with life-threatening injuries on the 1400 block of East Johnson Street around 12:30 p.m. Sunday.
Following the car accident, Madison Fire Rescue transported the seriously injured student to a nearby hospital where he was later pronounced dead as a result of the fatal injuries sustained in the crash. Only hours after hearing the news of the senior's death, friends and family established a Facebook group in his memory. When The Badger Herald printed their first article on the accident, the Facebook group had 232 people who joined to remember the fallen student. Most posted memories of the student, disbelief and final words on the page.
According to the Badger Herald, the student was majoring in Spanish education in UW's School of Education and was close to completing his degree at the time of this unfortunate crash.
Spokespersons from the Madison Police Department told the media on Sunday that it plans to only release a minimal amount of information on this car accident because the investigation was still ongoing. They expressed that more information would be released at the conclusion of their investigation.
