Milwaukee police are investigating and currently looking for a motorist that caused a hit-and-run car accident that killed a 44-year-old Milwaukee woman over the weekend. The car accident occurred just before 9:30 p.m. on Sunday on the 3100 block of West Townsend Street.
According to Milwaukee police, the woman was crossing the street near 30th Street and Townsend Avenue when she was hit by a vehicle. The victim's son described that his mother had been out of a walk after preparing and cleaning their apartment for a Labor Day barbecue when the accident happened.
News reports detail that the woman was struck by two different vehicles. The first vehicle struck the woman while crossing the street but before she could finish yelling at the first vehicle, she was struck again by a van. Police believe the impact of the van is what caused the fatal injuries to the woman, causing death. Following the crash, the driver of the van got out and attempted to help the woman but the driver of the first vehicle sped away.
The driver of the van had reportedly been drinking and was taken into police custody following the crash. Police are looking for the first driver that caused the crash. Police believe the vehicle had been dark-colored, newer Toyota or Nissan, with damage on the driver's side panel. Police are asking anyone with information on this vehicle or accident to call the Milwaukee Police Department at (414) 935-7360.
