Last Friday, a serious car accident left New York Giants' wide receiver Chad Jones in serious condition when is vehicle crashed in New Orleans. The crash occurred when Jones lost control of his 2010 Range Rover and struck a concrete-centered street car pole.

Jones, a third-round draft pick by the Giants and also a 50th-round draft pick by the Milwaukee Brewers baseball team, suffered a shattered left tibia and fibula in the car accident. In addition to broken bones, Jones suffered a large gash on his leg which resulted in artery and nerve damage. As a result of the gash, doctors performed surgery to restore blood flow to Jones' leg and feet as to avoid having to amputate his foot.

Jones under went almost eight hours of surgery at Louisiana State University Interim Public Hospital. Jones is currently recovering and plans to begin rehabilitation soon. Most reports say that Jones will make a full recovery but sports analysts question whether Jones' newly constructed leg will be the same and will withstand more contact. Some believe that Jones may have to switch from football to baseball if playing a contact sport is too much for his leg.

Jones was a star athlete while attending LSU and was drafted by both NFL and MLB teams.

Police charged Jones for careless operation of a motor vehicle. Louisiana police administered a toxicology test but results of those tests have not been released. Police have no reason to believe that drugs or alcohol were involved in this car accident.

Two other passengers in Jones' vehicle were injured in the car accident but were treated for minor injuries.
